Training Tuesday = Taco Bell Tuesday

So I was going to write my typical Training Tuesday post about how my half training is going. However, I just wrote a gratuitously long post yesterday about my long run, so I'm kind of out of more to say about running. I knocked out 11.2(ish) miles Sunday, took an unscheduled rest day Monday and today had a productive 6.46-mile run with an average pace of 9:30. Life is good.

But while I was slogging away at the miles, I had a heart to heart with myself. After an hour of pounding the pavement, you tend to get introspective.

I've been eating like crap. There's really no rhyme or reason. I've been having big breakfasts, lots of snacks and fast food lunches. I had Taco Bell for lunch today (Did you know it's National Taco Day? I was going there anyways, but it's a cool coincidence) and was still hungry. This is how I know I'm not eating the way I should. I enjoyed all like 800 calories of it, but still wasn't satisfied.

I need to stop expecting my body to perform on all cylinders when I'm giving it the cheap fuel. I realized that I'm expecting way too much of myself when taking into consideration my diet. So it's time to buck up and eat the way I know I should: 300 calories every three hours, mostly plants and lean proteins.

Mantra: Eat like an athlete, not a frat boy.

Yes! Ditto! If only I had a personal chef.

Good for you! I have been struggling with this too. I ate like crap all the way to the Milwaukee Marathon. I decided to stop this Monday and I already feel lighter and better. What a surprise... not :)
