Independence Day Giveaway Winner

Congratulations to ...

denny! Courtesy of random.org, you snagged a race entry to the Fort2Base Race, some goodies from FRS, a sweet tech T-shirt, a camo Spibelt and a camo Bondi Band. E-mail me to claim your prize!

In related running news, THANK YOU to everyone who has commented on my post about taking a running break. I've been thinking about it a lot and I might have a touch of over training, despite the fact that I took on two-a-day workouts during triathlon training and felt better than I do now. One of my friends pointed out that my spectacular downfall seems to have perfectly dovetailed with my new vegetarian lifestyle. Coincidence? I'm not so sure. I'm eating a ton of protein (somewhere around 100 grams from egg whites, cottage cheese and protein powder), but maybe I'm missing something else that I use to get from sporadic meat consumption.

Any thoughts from the vegetarian/vegans out there?

Is it Vitamin B that's really difficult to get from plants? Or iron? Maybe double check your consumption of those items in addition to the protein.

Also, I think triathlon training must not have the same over-training aspect since you're doing so much and keeping your body (and mind) guessing.

Congrats denny!

Erin is thinking of Vitamin B12. The reason it is hard to get from plants is actually because we wash them! B12 is found in the soil, and we get it from animals when they eat grass/soil then the B12 is in their meat. Anyways... We take a B supplement with a lot of Bs in it. When we remember.

When I wanted to go vegan (from being vegetarian) in 2009, Steven was worried about how it would affect my half marathon training for that May, so I waited until after. And I've felt great when I eat a healthy vegan diet (not all the candy that I tend to eat, ha ha). But, not everyone flourishes on that diet, you know? You have to figure out what works best for you, as a vegetarian. Have you read any of Scott Jurek's stuff about veganism (just for ideas, not saying to go that way). I have a book you can borrow :)

It is probably just overtraining, heat, and life though! You just got back from a long stressful (in the stressful travel sense) vacation. You are training for two endurance events. It is freaking HOT out. I think everyone is feeling a bit off!

I am mostly vegetarian (i do eat fish a couple times a week) But i take a b-vitamin supplement. I start to feel really run down and weak when i don't take it.....They are inexpensive, and our body safely eliminates what we don't need. Its worth a shot if you are feeling tired all the time!
