Three Things Thursday: Hand Themed

1. I had a much-awaited appointment this afternoon with Jenny's neurologist. If you recall, this is all her fault anyways. While running the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon with her, my hand went numb. The pinky and ring finger of my left hand never came back.  I figured I let this go on long enough, so my employer was generous enough to let me work from home this morning to accommodate the appointment, since this guy is in the city. Napoleon, however, did not approve this change to his intricate schedule. He was salty about it all.

2. It was rainy all day, so by the time I took the train, a cab and a walk to get there, I was soaked. Great first impression. It was actually a fantastic appointment, though. Dr. Segura listened to me and took a thorough history before hooking me up to this machine to shock the hell out of my hands. He mapped my nerves and measured their responses to stimuli. He also poked my muscles with an electrified needle similar to what they use for acupuncture. It's as fun as it sounds.

3. The diagnosis: I have carpal tunnel in both hands. Pretty surprising, since I don't feel pain and my right hand has all the correct sensations. I also have some kind of nerve blockage in my left wrist that's causing the numbness. Also surprising, since I don't have an injury. But since I'm not in pain, the doctor is recommending a conservative approach, which I appreciate. I'm taking two ibuprofens three times a day and a vitamin B complex. In four weeks, I'll retest and see if anything is improving. If not, perhaps I'll need an ultrasound to see what's going on in there.

I know I'm at more that three, but I have to say that I'm super excited to have a diagnosis and a course of treatment. I have high hopes of being able to feel my wedding rings again soon.

I am surprised the approach is just over the counter meds! I hope that fixes it.

Oh my gosh I'm sorry to hear this! On the bright side at least 1.) you finally have a diagnosis 2.) you have no pain 3.) the treatment isn't invasive and extreme! Hope it all works out.
