Travel Recap: Seattle Sister Trip

The past few days have been a trip of a lifetime. My sister and I basically did the microbrew version of Sideways, tasting our way through the best brews the Pacific Northwest has to offer. It was amazing and overwhelming and incredibly calorie dense, but YOLO.

Wednesday we met up at the airport and headed to Seattle, taking the light rail to our hotel in downtown. We stayed at The Roosevelt, which was basically the crappiest hotel in the nicest part of town. It was convenient, but smelled like bleach and was damp everywhere. Ick.

The first night, we set out to cover some ground. We started with the Unicorn, which is where Macklemore shot Thrift Shop. We had some great brews and bites, then grabbed a salted caramel cupcake from Cupcake Royale. I would say it was just OK. We capped off the night at Capitol Cider, which I had high hopes for. It was a great environment, but I was too tired to enjoy it.

The next morning, I had a glorious five-mile run to kick off a day of decadent eating.

We started with drinks at Moore Coffee, which is famous for its caffeinated art. My sister got a pumpkin latte and I got the Mexican mocha, both of which came with adorable designs.

After that, we mosied over to Biscuit Bitch for breakfast. I'm not a huge gravy person and opted for the buttered biscuit with maple peanut butter and a sliced banana. The biscuit was delicious and the maple peanut butter was ah-mazing.

The morning continued with a tour of Pike Place Market and some small bites, including at The Confectional. I went here during my last time in Seattle, so I split a salted caramel cheesecake pop with my sister, which was more than sufficient.

We had lunch at the Crab Pot, which Alyssa recommended. I figure you should have lunch with a mallet once in your life. We split the crab entree, which was designed for one person but easily fed the three of us.

I spent the afternoon walking around Pioneer Square and checking out neighborhoods. Mandy and I met up in the evening for an evening with Puget Sound Brewery Tours. It ended up being just her, I and the two owners. We had a blast learning more about the neighborhoods, chatting up homebrews and touring the locations. I won't ruin the surprise in terms of where we went, but my favorite locale was Stoup, where Mandy and I picked up a growler of the best chocolate stout on the trip. It was amazingly chocolately and smooth without being bitter.
We capped off the evening at Lunchbox Laboratory, which features adult milkshakes and premium bites. Everything was delicious and worth the trip out there.

The next morning was low-key, featuring a free breakfast as part of our deal with the hotel, and one last amazing coffee from Monorail Espresso. It's just a coffee window on a busy street downtown, but with a stop in. The coffee is fantastic and popular with the much-seasoned locals.

Then, we boarded an Amtrak bound for Portland. More about that tomorrow!

I hope you made it back safely!

Sounds like a great trip. The coffee design is very cool and I am putting the biscuit place on my list for my next Seattle visit!

I'm so jealous. Do you think they can open up a crap pot next to my apartment?
