(A very late) Training Tuesday

Yeah, yeah. It's Wednesday. I know this. However, I've been sick. That's the excuse I'm going with.

Anyhow, my long run went swimmingly. I met up with the Western Cook Running Club for a brisk run around Brookfield Woods that ended at Fullersburg Woods 10 miles later. We maintained a nine-minute pace throughout, which made my heart very happy. Physically, I was just fine, but digestively, not so much. All the treats I nibbled on at the Chicago Food Swap was not settling well and I had to make a stop at the nine-mile mark. Little did I know it was the beginning of a full-blown 36ish-hour bug.

Anyhow, I did my interval workout as prescribed, but on the treadmill. It included 12 quarter-mile repeats with 90 seconds of recovery. I kind of fudged the rest intervals to make the math easier on the quarter miles. I was able to hit 7:13 on almost all the sprints, which felt like hell. With warm up and cool down, I did 6.22 miles in this workout.

CrossFit was tough, per usual. I'm getting stronger and certainly huffing and puffing, but I'll never be a CrossFit Games competitor, even on the small scale.

My workout this morning consisted of a one-mile warm up, four tempo miles and a one-mile cool down. My tempo pace was an eight-mile pace, so my overall pace for the six miles was 8:24. Go me.

Next up, 11 miles at a 9:15 pace. It's so, so cold in the midwest and I'm still recovering, so those miles will get logged on the treadmill again.

Le sigh.  Mental toughness, right?

This can only help me when it comes time to run in a circle for four hours.

I hope you are feeling better. We are home with strep. :(

How are you liking the "Run Less Run Faster" plan?

Good for you on the 7:13 for your sprints. Now, do you raise the incline on the treadmill? I've read that you should raise it to 1% to simulate outdoor running.
