Welcome to 2014

Another day, another opportunity. But when that day is Jan. 1, it's like opening a fresh book. Mmm, new book/year smell.

Every year, I set these pie in the sky goals to get super skinny and fast and break records. Basically, I resolve to be a tiny, organized, serene and boss at work and at home. I aim high and dream big, and usually achieve marginal success this way. But this is a big year for me, and I want to achieve more by wanting less.
So the goals for this year are simple.

1. Finish Ironman Wisconsin smiling.

The next nine months will be all about getting myself to the start line of Ironman Wisconsin healthy, sane and strong. This will require losing weight, getting strong and spending hours upon hours training. Beyond the physical, I need to hone my mental toughness and stay focused. I need to balance my nutrition to power my workouts. I am committing to making the sacrifices needed to complete 140.6 miles in a smart and safe manner.

2. Embrace it.

This will be an intense year. There will be highs, there will be lows. It is a journey and some days, the only thing I can control is how I react. So this year, I choose joy. I choose adventure. I choose to say YES. Because today's trying moments are tomorrow's interesting stories. And it will all be worth it in the end.
