Three Things Thursday

1. I'm quite torn about what to do with CrossFit when I leave Chicago. I'm never going to be a CrossFit girl - I have to scale almost every workout unless it's straight up endurance based. However, I feel like it's given me the strength and mental toughness I need for Ironman Wisconsin. So I'm not sure if I should find a new CrossFit gym when I get to Seattle or spend all my waking hours chasing the tri dream. Thoughts?

2. I got an awesomely timed package this week from Tastenirvana coco water. It is hotter than hell in Chicago today. We went from winter to middle of summer in a given day. I needed this coconut water in a big way after today's mid-day run. I couldn't even make it through the 10-mile loop, which rapidly devolved into a seven-mile run/walk disaster. But hey, drinks make it better.

3. Remember how I couldn't find my Instagram printout from Wine Riot anywhere and was super freaked out? Guess what arrived in the mail today ....

The Internet is such a strange place. The guy who picked up my photo found my via blog and contacted me. My picture was stuck to the back of his photo, and he mailed it to me this week.

Tough call on CrossFit and tri training. I used to be a CF fanatic… until I started triathlon :) That said, strength training is super important, and if you can fit CF in one or two days a week, go for it. Otherwise, do some strength at home… plenty you can do there without having to pay a zillion dollars for CF :) So excited for your move to Seattle (and a little jealous… LOVE that city!)!

I'd say you should check out several CF boxes in Seattle. The benefits of CrossFit are enormous even if you're scaling a workout. This is especially true for endurance athletes. While the programming in CrossFit is universal, each CF box has a different culture. Find one that suits you and your goals. For me the coaching is worth the price of the class and will likely pay for itself over time in injury prevention alone.

I say check out Groupon/Living Social/etc and just try a bunch of stuff before commiting and buying any type of membership or class package. Personally, I really like Pilates (mat and equipment/reformer) for strength training.

I have some friends who do a lot of crossfit and running and from an outsiders perspective it seems hard to both! Obviously I agree that strength training and running go hand in hand but crossfit, at least here in SC is a big investment every month so which are you going to put your time into, tri stuff that's (mostly) free or a gym that you invest over $200 into every month. I think if you can find a balance then go for it
