Motivation Monday: Sometimes You Just Do Things

If you've ever read ultrarunner extraordinaire Scott Jurek's "Eat and Run," one of the concepts he ruminates on extensively is "sometimes you just do things." This resonates with me today mostly because I donned a bib signed by him this weekend and did some things.

I'm not blogging about the marathon. This was for me. Not for the blog and certainly not for time. This was for the experience, for the personal triumph and for the champagne, naturally.
Because sometimes, you just do things.

Congrats on your finish! I love the sentiment--it's really great to do things for yourself and not for anyone else.

Congratulations! I didn't even know you were running it.

What?! You ran Chicago just for fun so soon after your Iron Man? Congrats! Very cool. Did it feel easy compared to the IM? Also nice bib autograph!

It's never easy, but this was definitely a lot more fun than the Ironman, or any of the other races I've done this year. I took every beer offered to me on the course and just went out to cover 26 miles. Dare say I'd do it again, too!

So what were your thoughts on running Chicago? How did it compare to the others you've done?

I've never done a race like this. I mean, the Ironman is huge, amazing and overwhelming. But at Chicago, there were people shoulder to shoulder every mile. The crowd support was unparalleled. I really couldn't believe it when I hit 25 that I was already almost done. It was crazy!
