2015 Race Plans

I'm always up this early to get panicky about races ...
Last night started innocuously enough. A few beverages, a few snacks, a giant pot of soup and a few friends talking about the new year in front of us during my standard open-house Sunday dinner. We were talking races and places and paces and goals. Then things got out of hand. Laptops were brandished and credit cards were yielded and in a flash, three of us were half-Ironman bound.

My year is quickly taking shape and I'm so excited for what it will hold. Maybe a PR, but definitely fun times and smiles over miles. My theme this year in terms of races is free is for me. I've posted before my tips for saving money on triathlon gear, but I'm pretty well-stocked. The challenge this year is to find cost-effective ways to race and challenge myself. I'm saving up to tackle Ironman Wisconsin again in 2016, so I'm all about keeping things cheap. If I can snag a free entry, early-bird special or coupon code credit, I'm all in (hint, send me your free races and hot leads!). So here's where I am now:

Jan. 24 - F^3 Half Marathon (I won an entry from Emily's blog, Out and About)
March 28 - Circular Logic Marathon ($42 and will likely split accommodation/travel)
April 4 - South Shore Half Marathon ($20 and I have a place to stay)
June 14 - Esprit de She Naperville Tri (I'm an ambassador, use code EDS023)
Aug. 16 - Pigman Long Distance Triathlon ($97 and I have a place to stay)

Additionally, I'd like to add in:
June 7 - Udder Century Ride ($24, I'm thinking of the 50)
Either the Apple Cider Century (Sept. 27 for $40) or the Pumpkin Pie Century (Oct. 4 for $23)
Nov. 1 - Lakefront 50K (31 miles for my 31st birthday is pretty poet, no?)

I'm looking for a low-cost Olympic distance triathlon in July to round out my training plan. I'm currently looking at Sister Lake July 18 for $80, but if you know of one closer and cheaper, leave it in the comments. Please and thank you!

I signed up for sister lakes. There was a discount code but I think it ended. Try it though just in case (14HOLIDAY).

Tell me more about your open house Sunday dinner because I debated doing that yesterday when I made a crockpot full of chili.

Is it weird if I want to crash your place to stay for the South Shore Half? I'm still trying to figure out lodging for that one...

OK open house dinner is Sunday, usually around 7. I typically make soup or a crock pot meal, and people will generally bring rolls, salad, dessert, etc. Whoever wants to eat is welcome, and it ends up being my sisters, friends, running buddies, etc. It's a lot of fun.

And Erin, e-mail me, we should chat!

I wish I could have saved the $70 and won an F3 entry as well. Oh, well it's still worth it to be running a half marathon in January! I am toying with Circular Logic, but don't know yet...
