Outside of my 9-5, I'm a beer geek dwelling in the suburbs of Chicago with Napoleon, my 9-pound Yorkshire Terrier who has roughly three tons of personality. He rules this house with an adorable iron paw.
In 2010, I realized that if I want to continue my love affair with food, I had to balance it out with some activity. You can learn more about my evolution from couch potato to athlete here. I viewed exercise as punishment and dieted for a few months using Sparkpeople.com. I started running to bust a weight-loss slump. It has changed my life in ways I hadn't even imagined. Now, running is my outlet, my hobby, my social life and my therapy.
Ironman Triathlon in 2014 for my 30th birthday. It's a huge goal: 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run. Along the way, I've placed in my age group in three separate triathlons and had a wonderful time completing my first half Ironman in Racine.
But rest assured I really only do all of this to balance out the stouts, porters and goodies I so very much enjoy. My favorite ingredients are chocolate, oatmeal and peanut butter. You'll find plenty of healthy recipes here to balance out all the decadent desserts and restaurant fare I enjoy. I'm never one to pass on chocolate, and I believe a life of balance is the only one worth living. I run hard so I can eat hard.
