Today, I'm feeling a bit sore and apprehensive as I come off of my hamstring injury. I stopped going to physical therapy and wanted to see how I felt after this run. I'm better than I was before, but still not 100 percent. I likely need to return to PT and will look into next week.

McMillan Calculator |
Long story short, I've been looking at the McMillan Calculator and the FIRST marathon training calculator. They're both pretty similar - it almost identically matches my 5K PR. This makes me think that there might be some science to these things, but I think they're also really ambitious. My only goal is a sub-4-hour marathon, which FIRST says I can best by 15 minutes. Let's not get crazy here, though.

FIRST marathon calculator |
So my plan is to follow the pacing suggested in the calculator as much as possible, but not beat myself up if I can't hack it. Staying injury free is the primary goal of this training cycle. I won't risk my Ironman go on a pie-in-the-sky marathon time. There will always be another marathon. This could be my only shot at making the Ironman a reality.
Traning starts Sunday. Bring it.
