The Art of the Makeover

I get a haircut about once a year. I had my last haircut in November, but I found a student on Craigslist looking for a model. Free haircut at a super expensive salon? I'm game. Worst case scenario, I end up with super short hair that the instructor has to fix. But hair grows back, so I'm happy to let a student learn on my scraggly locks.  So I started looking like this:

Three hours and all this later ...

I look like this:

I'm really pleased with how it turned out. The student who worked on my mess of hair did a fantastic job of giving me a new style.  Here's to a more streamlined look!

Have you ever had your hair done by a student? How did it turn out?

Cute haircut! I love going short during the winter.

I went to the Aveda salon one time to have my hair trimmed and it turned out fine but took forever (like 2 hours). It was nice to have my hair cut for cheap but I'm not sure I'd go there for a drastic cut because I can only imagine how long that would take.

It looks great on you! I would love to get my hair cut by a student. By anyone. Sigh. I need it cut so bad and am so lazy!

I bet you live near a beauty school. If you search Craigslist for free haircuts, there are usually students at Aveda or Mario Tricoci looking for models. It takes a long time, because they're super careful, but it is free and they are supervised.

Nice! I used to go to the local beauty school for hair cuts. They weren't free, but it was only $10 for their most advanced students, and if they ever got "stuck" they would call over a teacher, and then the teacher would do your hair. The BEST bangs trim I ever got was in such a scenario. Too bad I can't book an appt with the teacher.
